Alex Ho
Flute
Alex is a flute and piccolo player from Hong Kong. He graduated from the Orchestral Artistry, Master of Performance course at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Music) degree with First class honours from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). During his studies he held positions in Guildhall Symphony Orchestra projects, principal flute at HKBU Symphony Orchestra and Collegium Musicum Hong Kong (CMHK) for 3-years and the Pro Arte Orchestra Hong Kong.
Ho has engaged himself in various international competitions and has excelled in many. Since he started his studies in London in 2022, he won the GSMD Needlemakers’ Woodwind Prize 2023 and was semi-finalist in the prestigious GSMD Gold Medal concerto competition. In 2024, he won the The Sixth Sense Grand Prix 2024 (Japan) in Tokyo; winning the 1st prize of winds chamber division and Overall Grand Prix.
An accomplished orchestral player, Ho has played professionally with Macao Orchestra and several projects with the London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of François-Xavier Roth, Gianandrea Noseda, Simon Rattle and Antonio Pappano. In the 2025-2027 season, he is principal flute in the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra in London. In 2025, he was admitted to the Asian Youth Orchestra and The Taipei Music Academy and Festival which allows him to tour Taiwan with the orchestra. Demonstrating his passion for chamber music, Ho collaborates with various ensembles. He wss invited to perform in a concert of The BBC Symphony Orchestra's Total Immersion series, participating in a chamber group alongside several accomplished string and wind musicians at Guildhall. In 2024, he had his debut with The Barbican Trio in Japan, performing in Osaka and Tokyo. As a member of CATIL Quintet, he actively performs in both the UK and France, including playing in Tunnell Trust Music Coll 2025 and giving workshops in Guildhall Young Artist Centres and City of Norwich School.
